Not another Design Trends blog?! Read on to find out what we think will be big in design, and important in performance for 2019.

It helps to be aware of what the latest website design trends are, if for no other reason but to make sure your new website doesn’t look dated as soon as you’ve launched it.

However, you know there's a time and a place for bells and whistles, rushing to adhere to the latest design trends is a waste if you don't make sure your design or content isn't in line with your customers’ needs and desires.

We’ve had a think about what we think will be big in 2019. There might be a few you recognise already, but we think will continue to hold true in 2019.

Colour!

We're seeing more colour blocking, and duotone being used and believe this will be something we see even more of soon. Designers aren't afraid to splash out with big bold colours where it's right to do so.

'Living Coral' is Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2019, will you be using It for any upcoming projects?

Gradients

Instagram startled it's users with their significantly updated icon (a little while ago – admittedly) but using gradients in web design is still gaining followers and we think they will be used by those who want to get away from flat-design. There are some great online tools that'll help you pair colours together as well – see CoolHue and Grabient for example.

Animation rather than videos

Video will still be a massive part of web content and strategy in 2019. We think companies will be introducing more animation to website designs to stand out and become even more engaging.

Less is more

Simple website design is key. A page that is too cluttered with too many calls to action will confuse your visitors.

A key trend prediction for 2019 is minimalistic design, with strong short headlines all complemented by beautiful design.

Speed

This certainly isn’t a new one but making sure your site has a good load time will be just as relevant in 2019. A fast load time isn’t just important for your search engine ranking, it is also an imperative part of your user experience as we compete for readers' attention.

Mobile first

This isn't breaking news either, we’ve been talking about the importance of responsive design and mobile first for years and that won't be going away. The difference is that Google has changed its algorithm to rank mobile optimized sites higher now than before. 2019 is the year to make sure your site is mobile optimized and responsive, more search engine traffic is coming from mobile users than ever.

Rotation of home page content

It is important to keep your website content fresh and vibrant. In 2019 we predict we will seem more websites that show different items on the homepage each time it is loaded, creating a unique experience every time you visit. Content that could be on rotation includes animations, articles, videos, images and design features.

Voice Search

We think some of you will want to consider the impact of voice search or digital assistants on your website traffic – if not 2019 – in the not-too-distant future. It would certainly be interesting to see separations in search statistics using voice requests to and see what we can do to answer those questions.
